As announced earlier this year, Magic Media has been enjoying a fruitful collaboration with Fateless Games delivering our second-to-none services to help bring the studio’s debut title to life. We’ve been providing numerous services including full-cycle game development, art production, video game concept art, animation, and more, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how the game is taking shape.
In this new blog, we look at some of the latest work on Fateless Games’ debut title, Godforge, the work we’ve accomplished so far, and the direction our work will take in the future.
What is Godforge?
Godforge is Fateless Games’ debut title which can be best described as a hero collection RPG game set in a dark fantasy universe. A central element of the game, which is also critical to our art production work specifically, is that the game features hundreds of heroes from 10 distinct factions representing various historical periods and mythologies from all over the world, including Norse, Greek, Egyptian, and several more.
Magic Media’s Work to Date
Our collaboration with Fateless Games began with Magic Media being brought on board to help develop Godforge’s overall visual design. We began with a small art team to develop visual prototypes and concepts. Through our art production services, we’ve been assisting Fateless Games in determining the game’s overall mood and tone, which so far has involved developing game art of various kinds including video game concept art, video game character art, worldbuilding, and 3D prototyping.
These art production duties have been carried out in conjunction with other services including full-cycle game development, game trailer production, animation, and much more.
Current Work on Godforge
One of the most critical aspects of our work has been video game character art and design, namely crafting over 300 hundred characters representing 10 distinct in-game factions based on histories and mythologies as previously mentioned. As an extension of representing these mythologies accurately, we’ve invested ample time in ensuring our environment work is reflective of these periods as well.
One such environment worth mentioning is a Babylon-inspired area, complete with lush plant and tree life, intricate stonework, and vibrant pools of water. This environment in particular worked as a fantastic playable prototype for us in benchmarking the environments’ design and visual quality, worked as a foundation for the game’s other playable locations, and as a guide for the project’s environment artists.
One of our most recent pieces of video game character art was the Green Knight. The Green Knight is a foreboding presence, outfitted with a moss-green suit of plate armor and a fell greatsword. The Green Knight boasts some fantastic gold detailing that highlights the intricate nature of the plate armor along with a central piece on the chest plate reminiscent of the Tree of Life. The Green Knight quickly became one of the team’s favorite pieces of game art we’ve worked on as part of this project.
The current team working on the Godforge project has been scaled up since the inception of our collaboration and is one of the largest teams Magic Media has ever assembled for one project. The video game character art team alone is comprised of 12 individuals and the wider art production team consists of around 25 people. We’ve scaled up significantly since our collaboration began and are constantly adjusting our team as the project requires.
Future Work on the Godforge Project
The next steps for our work on Godforge consist of more of what we’ve been doing for these last few months including game art production, environments, video game character art, 3D modeling, and much more. Every area of the game continues to require thorough work and focus as we draw closer to the next production milestone.
One of our most recent milestones was a playable demo at this year’s Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the game and it was a valuable source of feedback for us in our continued work on Godforge. The team has completed amazing, high-quality work so far and our collaboration with the Fateless team has been nothing short of remarkable. We’re excited to provide further updates as Godforge progresses!
