It’s time to dive into one of the most popular game engines on the market and into the day-to-day of one of our Lead Developers! Meet Higor Bimonti, a fantastic game developer and one of our talented Lead Unity Developers! Higor has been a part of the gaming industry since October of 2008, where he began his work with Unity 2.0! By 2022, he had joined the Magic Media team and has been lending his expertize to the group’s development efforts.
We got to chat to Higor about his daily work, his career in gaming, working with Unity, and what he feels are the most important aspects of his work with Unity Game Development.
Day-to-day work in Unity Game Development
For Higor, he takes advantage of the flexible remote work offered by our studio and begins his day around 08:30 AM in São Paulo, Brazil. Because the Magic Media team has an international presence, many colleagues will have already started their work by the time he logs in. As a Lead, Higor takes time to get synced with his team, provide any necessary support, and check in on his projects progress. The early parts of his day are also booked in with producers and business developer meetings for technical tasks and questions that he can inform on. For any projects that he manages directly, Higor also attends any daily calls in the morning.
By the time lunch has finished, most of the European and Asian teams are offline which leaves his afternoons free for “getting in the zone” as he calls it. Aside from any team members or clients in the Americas, Higor uses this time to focus on coding and development.
Working as a Lead Unity Developer
As Lead, something Higor enjoys the most is the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects and to collaborate with a diverse and talented team. The Magic Media team has a strong Unity developer presence, which helps Higor as he keeps up with the evolving Unity engine and the game development world at large.
In his position, he says, he needs to stay informed about all Unity projects in the company. This is so he can help the teams where needed either with his expertize gained over many years or simply by providing input into project development ideas and strategies. Keeping up with the teams inside Magic Media means he can understand their needs and help them out more efficiently.
Of course, despite being a Lead Unity developer, Higor’s work sometimes takes him out of the Unity engine. Just to name a few, Xcode for iOS and Android Studio for Android, specific devkits for console development, Postman for API testing, and a variety of CI/CD and version control tools such as Unity Build, Jenkins, Github Actions, Plastic, and SVN.
Delivering High-Quality Unity Game Development
For Higor, he believes clear communication is essential. As a leadership role, he feels that communication needs to be clear, defined, and direct with everyone including the management and any other departments involved in the project.
As part of this communication, it also highlights one of his favorite thing about working with Magic Media as a Lead Unity Developer. Higor loves interacting with all sorts of people but this work gives him the opportunity to interact frequently with other technical folks. On top of that, he also gets joy from helping other non-technical areas understand the more technical aspects of game development. On the whole, he enjoys being connected to so many talented people all collaborating and interested in the game development work.
