How we Grew an International Gaming Service Provider

When Magic Media was formed, we had one goal! To grow into an international gaming service provider to every type of client in the gaming market. From AAA to indie, we wanted to be the one-stop studio for all things gaming, entertainment and tech services like video production and cybersecurity go hand-in-hand with it but our goal was to deliver a gold standard of gaming services to our clients. Establish a Goal and a Core Concept

With any big plan, break it down into components and smaller, achievable goals. World domination is a pretty big ask!

Our goal and concept for Magic Media was to be the world’s leading entertainment service provider. A one-stop studio for all gaming, entertainment, and tech needs. We often see clients and game developers outsourcing to half a dozen studios. Bigger, well-known names, outsource to dozens for every project! What if you could cut that number down, no matter where you were based? Not only did we want to be the one-stop studio, we wanted to be global. From there, you can begin your journey! And so we did.

Build out your Service Offering

Any one service can be established easy enough. Plenty of studios are game VFX studios or co-development teams. We wanted it all and in one, easy package if you wanted it! You begin with one or two teams and you start to grow from there. Our international approach meant we could recruit and join forces with almost anyone. Based in an office or remotely from a location of their choice, Magic Media quickly grew to have a place in the United States, Western and Eastern Europe, South America, and even Southeast Asia! By now, our workforce is somewhere around 650 across 15 separate locations.

When you refuse to be limited by location, you can draw talent from anywhere. Skill from all over the globe, becomes available to you. With that in mind, we were able to recruit these talented experts who all shared our desire to make great games. As the teams grow, as you acquire more expertize, you can continue to offer more and more to your clients.

Acquisitions and Further Growth

Building teams from the ground-up, grassroots, is tough. It requires a lot of investment and time to get any momentum. We still had that going but acquisitions are key to major bumps of growth. Not only do you push ahead with large bursts of talent and experience, you also gain the benefit of their reputation and the relationship of any prior client engagements they have had.

Acquisitions bring new territory, new talent, and more incredible people who share your goal. With Magic Media, our acquisitions have broadened our reach with studios in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Ukraine, Estonia, and many more.

It’s hard to do anything different, especially as a lot of technology, game engines, and resources are fairly standardized. So, how do you stand out?

Magic Media’s solution was to work to the best of our ability but to institute a communication pipeline that our clients could engage with.
